Mr Lo Cheuk Hang came from Hong Kong it 1979 and helmed the dim sum kitchen of the defunct Golden Crown Restaurant off Margaret Drive. He had been roosting here since 2006, offering his classic chee cheong fun and porridge. His menu is mindboggling, about 30 items and iterations of his signatures- from fish, squid, prawns, cha siu chee cheong fun to century egg, cuttlefish, peanut, chicken porridge. He makes the chee cheong fun fresh upon order and one of our favourites is this Cha Liong, or yu tiao wrapped in fresh chee chong fun (see video). It is 2 starches, 2 textures, 2 flavours and too good. His version comes uber smooth and soft, seemingly fragile yet has a soft silky texture. we love the fresh carp fish version, steamed with whiskers of ginger and then topped with scallions and his signature soy sauce blend. The other stunner is his intestine porridge (he uses multiple rice grains to achieve a texture that’s light, yet firm, not watery and holds it texture. He puts on some crispy fried intestines and will often freshly deep fry the layered sang cheong (fallopian tubes) and his toppings are generous. Prices here are ridiculously affordable as he caters to the heartland crowds in the area.
