Li Ji Cooked Food
335 Smith St #02-139, Chinatown Cplx Food Ctr (Map) 11.30am – 3pm Sun
It’s not one of those brightly lit, 50 -item stalls to dazzle you and encourage upselling. They have only slightly more than 12 items, but nobody is in doubt what they are there for. Each dish is so hearty, authentic, well done and comforting and that’s why they wait patiently in line, despite the short operating hours. Do not miss their signature hum ha yoke or steamed prawn paste pork, which is just perfect over rice alone. But you won’t want to pass up on their other comfort items like black bean eggplant stuffed with minced pork, the steamed egg studded with century egg, humbling stir-fried black mushrooms and even a steamed lap cheong or Chinese sausage. Prices are very reasonable as this is an old name in Chinatown and it had catered to the low-waged workers and old folks in the area for decades.
