Kong Kee Mutton Soup 227 Jalan Besar Road (Map) Mon – Sat: 10am – 9.30pm
Sun
They began in a little backlane hole-in-the-wall shop off Kitchener Road over 25 years ago and now they have settled here. The whiff of the lightly herbal and clear mutton soup assails your senses when you pass by the walkway of this kopitiam – indication that they are getting it right. Order the larger mix-mix portion and it comes with quite a few pieces of ribs, boiled oh-so-soft and nary gamey as the light herbs and the bold use of ginger contain the meatiness. The few slices of soft and crunchy mutton stomach and the bits of tendons complete the meal. Just dip them in the tangy chilli sauce and down it with steamed rice. The soup is not overly herbal, and it is quite pleasurable to slurp it all down. We did; and love it.
