They used to occupy the iconic corner triangular unit in the charming pre-war row of shop houses along this street and they served up a legend- damn good local coffee (the family traded in coffee beans for decades before selling the old iconic building they owned) and a comforting plate of thin roasted bread kaya sandwich. The coffee is a must as is their Ceylonese tea and the star breakfast or snack sandwich is the French Kaya Toast- a whole slice is dipped in egg and grilled and served with a dollop of their addictive own-made kaya with slices of cold salted butter, just melting on top of the hot eggy toast. The New York Times and The Washington Post gushed even about their "boffee", local coffee with a slice of butter floating and melting atop. They have now moved here, a few doors down from their old Singapore “Flatiron” little building along the same street.
