This brand is another household name for chicken rice in Singapore. The late founder Mr Wee Toon Ouut passed on in 2019 but he had already passed on his skills to his son and head chef’s years earlier. Their poached chicken chunks come with a nice layer of jellified fat that lends so much flavour and smoothness to the meat, and the blended soy sauce spooned over is just the icing on the cake. The rice is softly firm and done with the residual stock used to poach the dozens of chickens daily. Chilli is vintage style sharp, spicy and tangy and remember to drip some dark and thick soy sauce over the rice and dip the chicken in the ginger sauce too. They have a few outlets in the region too, including Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia. But it’s here you get the mothership experience.
