Ye Ji Cooked Food
335 Smith St #02-020, Chinatown Cplx Food Ctr (Map) 8.30am – 2.30pm Sat & Sun
They have their band of hard-core senior citizen regulars in Chinatown as they have been at it for a few decades now. If these fussy golden oldies come back, it really means your food is good and often bordering on cheap. They have a fairly decent range of dishes each day and some change on a daily basis – depending on what fresh ingredients they obtain daily. But each item is something folks there will eat regularly. Nothing strange nor fancy. They replenish and cook in the little kitchen when an item runs out. The star items to plonk over your plate of rice here are the steamed toman fish slices with ginger, salted fish pork patties, steamed minced pork egg (chawanmushi), yong tau foo pieces in black bean sauce and even shrimp paste pork. You see many common heartland folks every day in the queue.
