Bouncy, juicy beef balls and rice vermicelli (bee hoon or rice angel hair pasta) are served in a clear, beefy broth, topped with bean sprouts and Chinese parsley. At times, beef tendon balls are available too. A tangy chilli sauce is served on the side to enhance the beefiness.
Beef Ball Bee Hoon
The Beef House
217 Syed Alwi Rd, Gar Lok Eating House (Map) 8am – 5pm Fri
The kopitiam/ coffeeshop is a tad run-down but it packs them in every meal hour because of the affordable food and this stall's offerings. An order comes looking very simple – clear broth with stringy beehoon, a few beef balls and just a few leaves of parsley. But the broth is intensely beefy despite the clarity and the beef balls have enough bite, that "pissing beef ball" texture (where juices flow out upon each bite), and bits of tendons that lend such a pleasant texture overall. Don't be taken in by the loud and overbearing owner boss; he is actually very funny and friendly.
