This is a game changer for hawker fare. Twenty something Fikri Rohaimi has cooking blood in him- interned in top flight restaurants, and while studying for a business degree. In 2023, he opened Blackgoat and offered nothing like what you see in any hawker stall- with a changing menu based on best supplies for the day. He freshly grills each meal upon order over wood fire. Long stay items include a stunning and expertly grilled grade 4 striploin (choose your doneness), a delightful black ink risotto stuffed squid with a coriander and four angles bean ulam salad in a lime ginger flower sauce. His cheeseburger with caramelized onion will get you because he uses flank and chunk beef. The white pepper was washed out by the bold Chipotle sauce in his buttermilk fried chicken burger but was very well executed. The desserts are made fine dine restaurant class by buddy Ethel Yam, with creations like a non-sugared Pannacotta with camomile flower and Moroccan rose syrup. All, restaurant class plated on ceramic wares. The wait can stretch to an hour here, move on if it's not your cuppa tea and prices are not hawker friendly levels too.
