Kim Kee Noodle
Blk 29, Eunos Ave 6 (Map)
For nearly three decades, Aunty has been perfecting her craft since the '90s, embarking on this culinary journey at a mature age in her 50s. Her noodles deviate from the more common, plump and floury variety; instead, they embrace the softly crunchy Cantonese style. But heed this warning: her chili packs a fiery punch—unless you’re a devoted disciple of pain, proceed with caution. The black soy sauce leans toward the Kuala Lumpur (KL) style. Her wanton dumplings boast a satisfyingly meaty bite, while the sui kao dumplings reveal a delightful combination of pork and crunchy prawn. And though the cha siu (barbecue pork) is acceptable—thin and roasted—it’s not the star of the show. That honour belongs to the fried then braised, soft, and gelatinous chicken feet. But remember, her sambal chili demands respect—consider yourself warned. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Koung’s Wantan Mee
121 Geylang East Central (Map) 8am – 6pm Mon
They moved here from their old popular spot off Geylang Rd. The noodles are the thicker local style and is softly aldente, not over blanched...moreish. It's not the KL black sauce version but a sweet savoury, unami and spicy version (if you add chilli). The cha siu (roasted honey pork) has lovely little bits of char. The wanton is not the star bite here. Waiting time during this review, was 25 minutes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
