Teochew cuisine is very popular in Singapore because of the migrant culture back in the day. They Teochews make up one of the largest south Chinese migrant groups and naturally they brought their famed cuisine along. Iconic must have dishes in such eateries include steamed ocean pomfret, oyster omelette, the humble chai po (pickled radish) omelette, braised goose or duck, simple stir fried leek and chai po , and the famous dessert- orh nee, a sweet yam paste served with soft pumpkin or gingko nuts.
