Ah Pang Steamboat Seafood Blk 159 Mei Ling Rd #02-21, Mei Ling Food Ctr (Map) 5pm – 9pm Tue & Wed
Boss Ah Pang is nearing 80 but he still helms this cze cha and steamboat hawker stall, lording over the kitchen and even his kids who sometimes help out. There's a range of comforting cze cha dishes on the menu like cereal prawns, steamed carp fish head, sweet and sour pork and a very well executed red wine lees braised chicken..a Hakka delight. But all those are merely a supporting cast to their steamboat meal. A set meal costs about at least $10 a person and it comes will all the favourites – chicken, pork, fish ball, tofu, fish slices vegetables..etc, and you can order extras like beef, cockles and the more expensive fishes or fish heads. The soup is rendered with chicken bone stock and soy beans and it gets richer as you simmer your ingredients in as you go along. One charming aspect is they still use a pedestal platter, a very old school retro raised plate to place some of the ingredients. The beef can come in that platter and they crack a raw egg over to smoothen and tenderise it.
