Chai Wee Cuttlefish 335 Smith St #02-65, Chinatown Food Cplx Food Ctr (Map) https://www.facebook.com/chaiweecuttlefish/ 7.30am – 3.30pm Mon & Sun

This curious little stall doles out freshly baked reels of thin-pressed dried cuttlefish – the ones widely sold and eaten during Chinese New Year in Singapore. Their own-made ones stand head and shoulders above the factory-produced versions. It is sweet, salty, and done with a touch of secret recipe (perhaps fermented yam besides the sweet shrimp paste or hae ko) and it is slowly fed into a 1.5m long machine griller, and out comes these gorgeous little bites. It goes extremely well with black coffee or beer (which they sell in a craft beer stall just a few stalls away). They seem to be the only hup hawkers selling this snack here.
