Monan Pork Soup 335 Smith St #02-137,
Chinatown Cplx Food Ctr (Map) 11am – 8pm Sun
If you tire of the usual peppery-garlicky bak kut teh or herbal pork soup, then this "cheng" or clear version is what you might like. This soup has Vietnamese influences and this young couple handmakes a special egg sausage (seasoned eggs poured into a sausage skin and boiled) that goes with a host of pork parts and slices in a light pork broth. It's not complex and easy to slurp. Chuk Kee and his Vietnamese wife Kim put in a decent amount of meat slices, skin, egg sausage, meatballs, offals, scallions, belly pork, etc. in a bowl and it is a meal when had with a bowl of rice. Don't let up on their tangy chilli sauce. They also offer the Shabu version, with shabu pork, egg sausage, and greens.
