Tiong Bahru Ngoh Hiang Prawn Cracker 1 Jln Kukoh, #01-09 Kukoh 21 Food Centre (Map) 12pm – 2pm Mon
They were very cranky and curt 25 years ago when Makansutra first rated them. But we don't care because they serve up one of the best Hokkien Ngoh Hiang in Singapore. Now they're getting on in age, and are just curt and efficient. They have hardly 6 items and it's best you order it all and tell them how many people are eating plus how many of those addictive handmade and fresh fried prawn crackers you want (crispy outside Hokkien style with crunch from bean sprouts and soft and airy inside). Then go sit down, the boss lady will come to find you.. if she remembers, and somehow she does. The pieces of lard and egg cakes, pink sausage, tofu, fish balls, Ngoh Hiang rolls, and stunning prawn crackers can bring the sun out on a rainy day. Not many today still offer the starchy meat sauce dip, but they do, alongside the vinegared blue ginger chilli dip. Have it with their beehoon noodles. Their prices are north of their peers and so is the quality.
