It’s a little HDB retail outlet in the middle of the heartlands with a hipster touch, i.e. cement screed flooring and brick walls with chalkboard menus. But that should not appeal to you because you are after the Chocolate Guanaja, our favourite among the three chocolatey signatures there. It’s not much of a looker but if you let it warm up to r oom temperature, this choco-bomb will stun with that melt-in-the- mouth effect. It’s not overly sweet and yet is rich. If you feel like having it all, go for their Dessert Platter, a selection of at least 3 cakes plus macarons and cupcakes, etc. and let it rip, with coffee or tea of course.

They are the mother ship egg tart brand in Singapore that has been around for a century (since 1920) and had survived food trends and evolvement. The stall took on a rebranded look in recent years and they have moved into branches all over the city. But the tarts remain. The custard is easier on sugar, as dictated by new palates and customers, but is still very soft, crumbly and creamy. The diamond-shaped (distinct to them) buttery crust is such a joy to bite in and the crusty texture blends so well with the custard. Even tourists from Hong Kong and China head here for gift packs and boxes.
