Goreng Pisang (Banana Fritters)
Goreng pisang are Malay-style fried banana fritters. Fresh bananas are dipped into a batter and then deep-fried. The popular snack is crispy on the outside but sweet and soft inside.

They use the gloriously sweet, tangy and creamy Pisang Raja variety for the fried banana and that will get you hooked if you have even a trace of a sweet tooth. Their batter has touches of tuber starch together with rice flour which gives a crispy and gently gummy bite. The star item in this fried fruit and tuber fritter stall is the 3-in-1 nian gao, a sweet glutinous rice flour cake sandwiched between slices of yam, battered then deep fried. This is rich and delightful with each slow bite you take (the glutinous cake will slow you down). But eat them quick, the crispiness does not hold for long.

Like many, they also use the creamy sweet and gently tangy Pisang Raja banana for the fritter. The batter is light, airy, crispy and gummy, very endearing and reminds us of the now defunct legendary Lim Kee Orchard Banana Fritters. They also offer similarly battered and fried versions of yam, sweet potato and tapioca, and it comes soft to the bite. The sweet yam and pumpkin fritter, which feels like orh-nee (Teochew sweet yam dessert) is alluring and they shape and fry them up in the shape of a little ball.
