Mr Lee Bok Eng had been cooking for a living since he was old enough to work. He is now in his 70s and still rocking the wok. His career included stints at some of the top old Cantonese restaurants in Singapore and with the Four Heavenly Kings of food here. Together with his wife and his son (who helps in the evenings), they are ready each day to cook any of the 77 dishes (at last count) in their menu. Outstanding is their Soy Sauce Crabs, done with an egg drop thickened soy sauce stock, very rare and very agreeable, not like the usual chilli or pepper crabs. Not many offer a well rendered Crispy Baby Squid, but they do, with a sweet savoury caramel sauce. The Nam Yue (red fermented tofu) pork is a must order here and they use the soft and smooth shoulder cuts. Many regulars in the area order their fried rice, done exceedingly well and roasty and it goes well with the Salted Egg Bitter Gourd slices… so Cantonese, so pure.
